About
Who writes this
I'm Laura Bill. I hold a Master's degree in Educational Psychology and I'm a Certified DBT Coach — an unusual pairing that turns out to matter, because most study problems are half learning and half stress.
The short version
I've been building things on the internet since 1999. Internet Learners is where I write about how people actually learn, and where I build free tools that turn research into something you can use on a Tuesday night.
I'm based in Massachusetts and I work alone. Everything on this site is written by me.
Why the two credentials matter together
Educational psychology explains how learning works — retrieval, spacing, the difference between recognising something and knowing it. That half is well studied and mostly uncontroversial.
The other half is the one study advice usually ignores. When you're anxious, resources shift away from working memory, which is the exact system you need for recall. That's why you can study for six hours, feel like you know nothing, panic, study more, and retain less. DBT training is what lets me write about the second half without hand-waving.
How this site is written
- Sources are named. Marton and Säljö, Biggs, Entwistle, Pashler, Mayer — you'll find them at the bottom of the pages where they apply.
- There are no invented expert quotes. If you've read study-advice content that quotes a "renowned educational neuroscientist" you can't find anywhere, you've met the alternative.
- I say when evidence is thin. The learning styles page is the clearest example: it would be easier to just tell you your style.
- The tools are free and don't require an account. Results appear on screen; nothing is stored.
What this site won't do
I'm not a nurse. On the NCLEX side I write about study strategy, question reasoning, and test anxiety — the things my training actually covers — and I leave clinical content to nursing educators.
I'm also not your clinician. Nothing here is medical or psychological treatment. If anxiety is affecting your daily life beyond exam stress, that's worth raising with a doctor or counsellor rather than managing alone.
Some links here earn me a commission at no extra cost to you, and they're disclosed where they appear. A commission never buys a recommendation. Where a free alternative would serve you just as well, I'd rather say so. Full disclosure →
